DHAKA, May 12, 2026 (BSS) - The government has revised passenger fares for speedboat services across the country and issued a gazette notification specifying new route-wise and kilometre-based rates for both calm and rough water routes, effective from May 11.
The fares were fixed under the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport (Naval Routes, Permits, Schedules and Fare Determination) Rules, 2019, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Shipping and published in gazette form today.
According to the notification, separate fare rates have been specified for both calm and rough water routes on a per-kilometre and route-wise basis.
For calm water routes, the fare has been fixed at Taka 15 per kilometre for the first 10 kilometres, Taka 10.80 per kilometre for the next 10 kilometres, and Taka 8.64 per kilometre for the remaining distance.
For rough water routes, the fare has been fixed at Taka 17 per kilometre per passenger for the first 10 kilometres and Taka 15 per kilometre for the next 10 kilometres.
The notification also included a route-based fare chart. Among the notable routes, fares have been fixed at Taka 235 for the Aricha-Kazirhat route, Taka 130 for the Shimulia-Kathalbari route, Taka 325 for the Barishal-Bheduria route, Taka 160 for the Laharhat-Bheduria route, Taka 270 for the Bhairabbazar-Nabinagar route, Taka 235 for the Narsingdi-Salimganj route, and Taka 380 for the Galachipa-Rangabali route.
The fare from Fisheryghat in Rangamati to the Marishya route has been fixed at Taka 860, while fares for the Maini and Barkal routes have been set at Taka 485 and Taka 355 respectively.
Among the rough water routes, fares have been finalised at Taka 260 for the Kumira-Guptachhara route, Taka 95 for the Cox’s Bazar No. 6 Ghat-Maheshkhali route, and Taka 325 for the Boyarchar (Chairmanghat)-Nalchira (Hatiya) route.
