DHAKA, May 12, 2026 (BSS) - The first meeting of the "Committee on Private Member's Bills and Resolutions" of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad was held today at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with committee chairman Md. Shahjahan MP in the chair.
Committee members Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md. Asaduzzaman, Md. Amanullah Aman, Md. Abul Khayer Bhuiyan, Mst Tahsina Rushdir, Muhammad Nowshad Zamir, Shahjahan Chowdhury and Md. Nurul Islam attended the meeting.
Following an introductory session, members were briefed on the activities of the committee relating to private member's bills and resolutions. The meeting also held detailed discussions on the committee's scope of work, private bills, and various constitutional and procedural rules concerning private members' resolutions, said a press release.
To make the committee's activities more dynamic and effective, members were advised to play an active role in encouraging all lawmakers to introduce private bills on issues of public importance.
The meeting recommended that the Legislative Drafting Unit of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat take initiatives to provide necessary assistance to lawmakers in preparing drafts of private members' bills.
At the beginning of the meeting, prayers were offered seeking eternal peace for the departed souls of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and those who sacrificed their lives in the long anti-fascist movement.
Relevant officials from the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and officers and employees of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat were present at the meeting.
