DHAKA, May 12, 2026 (BSS) - Detective Branch (DB) arrested five members of an inter-district robbery gang along with illegal firearms, ammunition, explosives and motorcycles during a special drive in the capital's Jatrabari area.
The arrested were identified as Md Liton Jabbar, 52, Ismail Hossain Mamun, 55, Md Babul Babu, 45, Ayub Bhuiya, 30, and Md Roman, 35.
According to a police press release, the operation was conducted on Shahid Faruk Road from Dayaganj to Jatrabari under Jatrabari Police Station around 4:50 pm on Monday.
Sources at DB-Wari Division said based on secret information a detective team launched the operation that members of an inter-district robbery gang were preparing to commit robbery in front of Modern Bikalpa Wooden Furniture shop in the area.
During the drive, detectives arrested the five suspects and recovered two pistols, two magazines, seven rounds of bullets, 2.2 kilograms of explosives, one machete and two motorcycles from their possessions.
During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees confessed that they had long been collecting arms, gunpowder and bomb-making materials from border areas of Jashore District.
They reportedly used those materials to make hand bombs and later supplied them to different criminal groups in Dhaka.
Police said the gang members also carried out robberies by creating panic among people using firearms and explosives.
At the time of arrest, they were allegedly preparing to commit robbery.
Two separate cases have been filed with Jatrabari Police Station in connection with the incident.
