BGB seizes Indian smuggled goods worth Tk 1.22 crore in Cumilla

DHAKA, May 11, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized Indian 
smuggled goods worth more than Taka 1.22 crore in separate drives conducted 
along the Cumilla border areas on Sunday.

According to a BGB press release, patrol teams of Shashidal and Kharera 
Border Outposts (BOPs) under Sultanpur Battalion (60 BGB) carried out the 
operations in the border-adjacent areas of Brahmanpara and Burichang upazilas 
based on intelligence information.

During the operations, BGB personnel recovered 648 pieces of Indian sarees 
and 337,400 pieces of firecrackers. 

The estimated seizure value of the confiscated goods is Taka 12,256,000.

The seized items are being handed over to the concerned customs office 
following due legal procedures.

Commanding Officer of Sultanpur Battalion Lieutenant Colonel SM Shariful 
Islam said the battalion remains vigilant not only in ensuring border 
security but also in preventing push-ins, trafficking of women and children, 
drug smuggling, and other cross-border crimes.

He added that intelligence surveillance and operational activities in the 
border areas have been further intensified and such drives will continue in 
the future.
