Six more die of measles-like symptoms

DHAKA, May 10, 2026 (BSS) - Six more children died with measles-like symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours, although none of the dead children were confirmed measles patients.
Of the deaths, three occurred in Dhaka division, two in Chattogram division and one in Mymensingh division.

The information was disclosed today in a press release sent by the Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

According to the release, the number of suspected measles patients reported during the last 24 hours stood at 1,341, while the total number of suspected measles cases recorded from March 15 to May 11 reached 50,500.

DGHS Control Room data showed that among the suspected patients reported in the last 24 hours, 565 were from Dhaka division, 175 from Rajshahi division, 116 from Barishal division, 258 from Chattogram division, 37 from Mymensingh division, 66 from Sylhet division, 97 from Khulna division and 27 from Rangpur division.

During the same 24-hour period, 118 patients were confirmed with measles, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 6,937 since March 15. 

From March 15 to May 11, a total of 35,980 suspected measles patients were admitted to hospitals across the country, while 31,992 patients recovered and were discharged during the same period.
So far, 65 deaths have been confirmed from measles infection nationwide. Including the latest six deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the total number of deaths from suspected measles has risen to 350.

Dhaka division has so far recorded the highest number of suspected measles cases at 22,769, of which 4,720 cases were later confirmed as measles.
