CHATTOGRAM, May 08, 2026 (BSS)- Country's only state-owned di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) fertilizer factory will resume production from Saturday morning after a temporary closure.
DAP Fertilizer Company Limited (DAPFCL) in Rangadia, Anwara upazila of Chattogram, will restart production following a temporary ammonia crisis, said factory's manager (admin) and Divisional Head Alamgir Jalil.
We are receiving ammonia again as KAFCO has resumed production. The factory will be opened on Saturday morning after storing the ammonia for a few days, and production will start by noon, he said.
The company has been sourcing ammonia from two nearby fertilizer factories, Chattogram Urea Fertilizer Company Limited (CUFL) and Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO), since its inception.
However, the supply of ammonia was disrupted due to the gas crisis in both factories. DAPFCL had to temporarily halt production on April 18 when the stored ammonia ran out. The DAPFCL factory, managed by BCIC under the Ministry of Industries, has been in commercial production since 2006 and plays a crucial role in promoting balanced fertilizer use in the country's agricultural sector.
The factory has two units, DAP-1 and DAP-2, with a combined daily production capacity of 800 tons. CAFCO's Chief of Operations Faruk Ahmed said, Production was halted on March 4 due to a government decision to stop gas supply.
Production resumed on May 2 after gas supply was restored on May 1. Currently, the factory is producing around 1,800 metric tons of urea fertilizer daily, ensuring normal ammonium supply to the DAP fertilizer factory.
KAFCO has resumed production, but CUFL remains closed since March 4. The restart of KAFCO production may lead to the DAP factory restarting production as well.
