DHAKA, May 7,2026 (BSS) - Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Acting Commissioner Md. Sarwar has directed police officials to remain on maximum alert to maintain law and order and prevent crimes ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
Speaking at the monthly crime review meeting for April 2026 held at DMP Headquarters today, he instructed officers to intensify efforts against counterfeit currency syndicates, drugging gangs, "ointment parties," and snatchers.
He also directed traffic police to prevent congestion around cattle markets during the Eid season and asked law enforcement agencies to strengthen security at launch terminals, bus stations, and railway stations.
Emphasizing enhanced foot patrols, he ordered police stations to continue drives against narcotics and wanted criminals to ensure no crime takes place within their jurisdictions.
Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) S N Md. Nazrul Islam, said the overall law and order situation in the capital remains stable and stressed the need for continued vigilance.
He also called for intensified operations against extortionists and snatchers under the ongoing special drives.
At the meeting, police officials of different ranks were awarded in recognition of their contributions to maintaining law and order, crime control, and public safety in Dhaka during April 2026.
