DHAKA, May 7, 2026 (BSS) – An accused in the murder case of former Shibpur Upazila Parishad Chairman and freedom fighter Alhaj Md Harunur Rashid Khan has been brought back to Bangladesh from Dubai with the assistance of Interpol and Dubai Police.

The arrested was identified as Arif Sarkar, 40, son of late Hafiz Uddin Sarkar, of Shibpur upazila in Narsingdi.

According to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Arif Sarkar was arrested in Dubai following an Interpol red notice and later handed over to Bangladesh Police. 

He was brought back to the country on May 6, 2026 and produced before a court the same day.

The victim was shot at his residence on February 25, 2023 and died on May 31, 2023 while undergoing treatment.

A murder case was filed on February 27, 2023 against Arif Sarkar and others under sections 302 and other provisions of the Penal Code.

The case was later investigated by PBI Narsingdi following a directive from Police Headquarters.

PBI said another accused earlier arrested from Dubai had provided key information about the incident.

After investigation, PBI submitted a charge sheet against Arif Sarkar and others on November 24, 2025.
