DHAKA, May 07, 2026 (BSS) – The Local Government Division (LGD) of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives has upgraded Shibganj Municipality in Bogura district from ‘C’ category to ‘B’ category.

The decision was issued through a notification, which will come into effect immediately.

According to the notification, the upgrade was made considering the municipality’s financial capacity, infrastructural development, expansion of citizen services, population growth and revenue collection performance, in line with existing policies and evaluation reports of the Local Government Department.

LGD officials said the decision aims to strengthen the administrative capacity of the municipality and further expand civic amenities. They added that following the upgrade to ‘B’ category, Shibganj Municipality will have greater opportunities to undertake and implement development projects.

Officials also said that municipalities across the country are being reclassified in phases based on capacity assessments.
