Programmes on Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary begins in Khulna

KHULNA, May 7, 2026 (BSS) – A three-day programme has been undertaken in Khulna marking the 165th birth anniversary of Nobel Laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore at Dakhindhi Rabindra Complex in Phultala Upazila and Pithabhog in Rupsha Upazila from May 8 to 10.

The programmes, organised by the Khulna district administration, will be held on 25-27 Baishakh of the Bengali year 1433.

At Dakhindihi Rabindra Complex, the inaugural ceremony and discussion meeting will begin at 3 pm on May 8 with Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman attending as the chief guest.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit, Jatiya Sangsad Whip Rokibul Islam Bakul, lawmakers Mohammad Ali Asgar, S K Azizul Bari and Amir Ejaz Khan, Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Abdullah Harun, Range DIG Md Rezaul Haque, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs Md Billal Hossain Khan and Superintendent of Police Mohammad Tajul Islam will attend as special guests.

Khulna Deputy Commissioner Hoore Jannat will preside over the function, while noted educationist and former treasurer of Khulna University Professor Mohammad Mazharul Hannan will deliver the memorial lecture.

On May 9, a discussion meeting will be held at 3:30 pm with Divisional Commissioner Md Abdullah Harun as the chief guest. The closing ceremony on May 10 will be attended by MP Mohammad Ali Asgar as the chief guest.

Cultural functions will be staged daily from 4:30 pm to 7 pm.

Similar programmes will also be arranged at Rabindra Memorial Museum in Pithabhog under Rupsha Upazila.

Meanwhile, the district administration said cultural programmes will be held there every day from 4 pm to 7 pm as part of the celebration.
