DHAKA, May 07, 2026 (BSS) – The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 today ordered the production of former minister Dipu Moni, former Ekattor TV Editor-in-Chief Mozammel Babu, and the channel’s Principal Correspondent Farzana Rupa on May 14 in a case filed over alleged killings during the then government’s crackdown on a Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh rally at the capital’s Shapla Chattar on May 5, 2013.
A two-member tribunal passed the order after holding hearing on a prosecution plea for passing production warrant against the three in the case. Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim moved the plea before the court.
“Former minister Dipu Moni, journalists Mozammel Babu, and Farzana Rupa attempted to deliberately divert the Shapla Chattar killing incident in a planned manner. For this reason, a production warrant has been sought against them in the case, as their interrogation is necessary,” Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam told journalists later.
Earlier on May 5, the chief prosecutor said that the tribunal’s investigation body has identified 58 people, who were killed across the country over the government crackdown on a rally of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh at the capital’s Shapla Chattar on May 5, 2013.
“Of the 58 identified victims, 32 were killed in Dhaka on May 5, 2013. Another 20 died in Narayanganj, five in Chattogram, and one in Cumilla the following day. All of the deceased have now been identified,” the Chief Prosecutor said at a briefing held at his office on that day.
He further stated that the identities of the accused in the case cannot be disclosed at this stage for the sake of proper investigation. He added that around 90 per cent of the investigation work has already been completed.
The accused in the case include- former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, Shamsul Haque (Tuku), Major General (Retd) Ziaul Ahsan, former Inspectors General of Police AKM Shahidul Haque, Hasan Mahmud Khandaker, and Benazir Ahmed, former Deputy Inspector General of Police Molla Nazrul Islam, and Imran H Sarkar.
