DHAKA, May 07, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today ordered the seizure of tax files of former vice chancellor (VC) of Jahangirnagar University (JU) Professor Dr Farzana Islam and her husband Md Akhter Hossain, over graft charges.
 
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order allowing the petition of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
 
The petition said an investigation officer has been appointed to probe the allegations of widespread corruption against Farzana Islam, including claims that lakhs of Taka were earned through recruitment irregularities involving her husband, son and third parties.
 
The petition further said Farzana Islam and her husband, Md Akhtar Hossain, are taxpayers, and there is a possibility that they concealed a huge amount of movable and immovable assets.

It also said certified copies of all relevant documents and information, including the permanent and miscellaneous sections of their original income tax records, are necessary for a fair investigation and sought the court's order for seizure, if required.
