DHAKA, May 6, 2026 (BSS) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced a special drive against damaged, risky, and unserviceable vehicles operating beyond their economic lifespan in the capital.
In a public notice issued today, the DMP said many unfit buses continue to ply across the city, often breaking down on roads, flyovers, and bridges, causing severe traffic congestion and posing serious risks to road safety.
According to the notice, the economic lifespan has been set at 20 years for buses and minibuses and 25 years for trucks, covered vans, and other freight vehicles, as per guidelines of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).
The DMP warned that strict legal action will be taken against violators, including fines, impounding of vehicles, and sending unfit vehicles to dumping yards.
The drive will be conducted in coordination with Special Metropolitan Magistrates and traffic police.
The police authority has urged vehicle owners, drivers, and transport stakeholders to comply with the regulations and sought public cooperation to ensure safe, smooth, and hassle-free movement in the city.
