KISHOREGANJ, May 5, 2026 (BSS) - The government has undertaken an initiative to support farmers affected by heavy rains and early flooding in the haor regions of Kishoreganj through a card-based assistance program.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by Md. Saidur Rahman Khan, Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, following his visit to several flood-affected areas in the district.

He said that although farmers in the haor regions are accustomed to natural disasters, this year’s early floods and excessive rainfall have caused significant damage. The government is closely monitoring the situation and taking prompt measures to assist those affected.

Under the initiative, farmers will be categorized into three groups based on the severity of damage.

Those most affected will receive Taka 7,500 per month, moderately affected farmers Taka 5,000, and those least affected Taka 2,500.

In addition to financial aid, each farmer will receive 20 kilograms of rice per month. The assistance will be provided for duration of three months.

The distribution will be managed through a card system, with authorities preparing a verified list of beneficiaries. Officials from multiple departments are working together to ensure accurate identification, with multi-stage verification processes in place to guarantee that aid reaches the genuinely affected farmers.

The secretary also said that the program has already been launched in Sunamganj. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture is working on measures to rehabilitate affected farmers.

Among those present during the visit were Additional Deputy Commissioner Mijabe Rahmat, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md. Badruddoza, former convener of Ashtagram Upazila BNP, Chairman of Sadar Union Parishad Syed Faiyaz Hasan Babu, and other local administration officials.
