DHAKA, May 4, 2026 (BSS) - Nusrat Tabassum Jyoti, nominated by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its alliance, has been elected unopposed to a reserved women's seat in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
The announcement came in a notification signed by Returning Officer and Joint Secretary of the Election Commission (EC) Md. Main Uddin Khan today.
According to the notification, following a High Court order dated April 27 in writ petition No. 5022/2026, her nomination papers were accepted and scrutinised on May 2 and subsequently declared valid.
As she was the only valid candidate, she was declared elected unopposed under Section 12(2) of the National Parliament (Reserved Women Seats) Election Act, 2004.
With her election, the process for all 50 reserved women's seats in the 13th parliament has been completed.
The notification added that the gazette will now be sent to the Parliament Secretariat for necessary arrangements for oath-taking of the elected members.
