CHATTOGRAM, May 4, 2026 (BSS) – City Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain has stressed the importance of collective efforts to make Chattogram a clean and habitable city, saying citizen cooperation is crucial for a permanent solution.
He also warned about the consequences of indiscriminate garbage dumping, which could lead to waterlogging.
He made the remarks while inspecting a road near Bahaddarhat Raw Market in the city this morning.
The mayor said that simply implementing projects is not enough to prevent waterlogging; cooperation and awareness among city residents are essential for a lasting solution.
During the inspection, he expressed frustration over illegal structures on the road and ordered their immediate removal. He also visited the ongoing canal renovation project by the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) in the Bahaddarhat area and instructed the removal of embankments impeding water flow.
He further directed the construction of a Bailey bridge to facilitate local movement. He then inspected the drain and canal cleaning campaign in Faridar Para area of Chandgaon Ward No. 4 and later visited the same activity in Khaja Road area of Ward No. 6.
City Corporation sources said month-long drain and canal cleaning activities are underway in different wards of the city ahead of the upcoming monsoon season.
Field-level supervision has been intensified to minimise waterlogging, with a focus on maintaining the functionality of the drainage system.
