Tax files of former customs official Mofizur to be seized

DHAKA, May 04, 2026 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today ordered the seizure of tax files of former assistant commissioner of Customs, Excise & VAT Commissionerate, Bhuiyan Mofizur Rahman over graft allegations.

Dhaka Metropolitan Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The petition said the accused, Bhuiya Mofizur Rahman, allegedly concealed information about assets worth Taka 17.58 lakh acquired through bribery and corruption during his tenure in government service, and submitted false and baseless statements to unlawfully benefit him.

It also alleged that he accumulated movable and immovable assets worth Taka 1.21 crore disproportionate to his known sources of income. In this connection, the Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case.

The petition further said that the accused is an income taxpayer and, for the sake of a fair and proper investigation, it is essential to seize all relevant records and information, including the permanent and miscellaneous sections of his original income tax files.
