DHAKA, May 3, 2026 (BSS) - A college student died today after drowning in a swimming pool in Konapara area of Demra in the capital. 

The deceased was identified as Shakib Hossain, an HSC examinee of Donia College. He was the son of Mohammad Arif Hossain and lived with his family in Borobari area of Donia under Kadamtali Police Station.

The incident occurred around 12:30 pm when Shakib, along with a group of friends, went to a swimming pool near Balur Math in Konapara, police and local sources said. 

While swimming, he suddenly went underwater and did not resurface.

He was later rescued and taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead around 2:30 pm.

Inspector Mohammad Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy and the concerned police station has been informed.
