DHAKA, April 28, 2026 (BSS) – A court here today placed two personal staffers of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s former Defence and Security Adviser Major General (Retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique on a three-day fresh remand each in a case filed over the killing of trader Abdul Wadud during the July Mass Uprising.
The accused are Tarique’s driver Md Mohidul Islam and house caretaker Md Chan Miah.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam passed the order as police produced the duo before the court after the expiry of their four-day remand in the case and prayed for a further seven-day remand.
Police arrested Mohidul from Thakurgaon and Chan from the capital’s Bhashantek area on April 19. They were first placed on a four-day remand on April 20 and later on another four-day remand on April 24.
According to the case statement, Abdul Wadud was shot dead on July 19, 2024, at Nilkhet under New Market Police Station during the anti-discrimination students’ movement. The case was filed by the victim’s brother-in-law Abdur Rob.
The case also names 130 accused, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.
