Standing Committee on Public Accounts holds 1st meeting

DHAKA, Sept 8, 2026 (BSS) - The first meeting of the Standing Committee on the Public Accounts of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad was held today at the Cabinet Room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with committee chairman Syed Abdullah Mohammed Taher in the chair.

Committee members -- Md. Amanullah Aman, committee member and Whip A.B.M. Ashraf Uddin (Nizan), A. K. M. Fazlul Haque Milan, Md Hafiz Ibrahim, Dr Md Mahabubur Rahman, S K Azizul Baree, Md Monjurul Islam, Md Fazley Huda, Mohammed Zakir Hossain, Syed Joynul Abedin and Md Ruhul Amin attended the meeting.

The meeting began with recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by an introductory session involving the committee chairman, members and senior officials concerned with the committee.

The meeting discussed audit objections contained in paragraphs 1 to 8 of Audit Report No. 36/2023 of the Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh concerning the accounts of Bangladesh Medical University, hospital section, for the 2020-2021 financial year.

The committee directed the authorities concerned to recover the money related to the objections and take necessary measures through the Health Education Division.

The meeting also decided to form an investigation committee comprising committee members Dr Md Mahabubur Rahman and Md Fazley Huda and the Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services. The committee will verify the tender specifications of the procuring entity during the audit period and submit a report.

The committee also reviewed 10 pending audit objections under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare that are awaiting final settlement by the Public Accounts Committee.

The objections had been recommended for settlement by the Comptroller and Auditor General after the concerned ministries, divisions and agencies took measures including recovery, adjustment, write-off, remission, regularisation, retrospective approval and other effective actions, and submitted settlement replies to the relevant audit directorates or tripartite meetings for onward submission to the CAG office.

Following a review of the replies and supporting documents, the committee decided to settle the 10 audit objections.

At the end of the meeting, the committee chairman briefed journalists.

The Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh, Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Medical University, and senior officials from the National Board of Revenue, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat attended the meeting.
