Adani Power adds 925 MW to national grid

DHAKA, April 27, 2026 (BSS) - The country has started receiving about 925 megawatts (MW) of electricity from India's Adani power plant from this evening.

According to the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), the second unit of the Adani plant began synchronising with the national grid at 7:47 pm. It is now supplying 925 MW of electricity.

BPDB Chairman Engineer Md Rezaul Karim said the power supply will increase gradually.

He added that the additional electricity is helping boost overall generation and reduce load shedding across the country.

BPDB officials also said that from April 28, the national grid is expected to receive another 600 MW each from SS Power and RNPL.

RNPL is a joint venture between Bangladesh's Rural Power Company Limited (RPCL) and China's state-owned NORINCO. It will begin generating 600 MW starting April 28.

According to BPDB data, the country's highest electricity demand reached 16,900 MW on Saturday evening, while the highest generation was 14,712 MW without Adani's contribution.
