3 to die, 3 get life sentence in farmer murder case

MYMENSINGH, April 27, 2026 (BSS)- A court here today sentenced three persons to death and three others to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of farmer Ashrab Ali in Phulpur upazila of the district centering a land dispute in 2014.

Judge Farhana Ferdous of Mymensingh Special Sessions Judge’s Court delivered the verdict today, a court official said.

Those sentenced to death are Nur Hossain, 57, son of late Abdul Gafur of Deokhali village, his son Ujjwal Mia, 32, and Shahidul, 37, son of Sohrab Ali. 

The court also sentenced Sohrab Ali, 62, his wife Swarupa Khatun, 57, and Nur Hossain’s wife Rehena Khatun, 54, to life imprisonment.

Each of the six convicts has been fined Taka 30,000. In default of payment, they will have to serve an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment.

According to the case details, the victim and the accused were neighbors and had been embroiled in a long-standing dispute over land. 

In the morning of January 18, 2014, the accused allegedly carried out a premeditated attack on Ashrab Ali. The attackers repeatedly assaulted him with locally made weapons, leading to his death.

ON the following day, the victim’s son, Julhas Uddin, filed a murder case against six individuals with Phulpur Police Station.

The court recorded testimonies from 15 witnesses and found all six accused guilty.

Advocate A.H.M. Khalequzzaman defended the accused persons while advocate Mohammad Akram Hossain appeared for the state.
