DHAKA, April 26, 2026 (BSS) – When almost the entire country is reeling under intense hot weather, much needed rainfall brought relief to the public life.
Dhaka and surrounding districts experienced a sudden drop in temperature as gusty winds and heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms sweep over the country this afternoon.
Over the past few days, the country has experienced temperature from 30 to 37 degrees Celsius but feeling 41 degree Celsius, causing significant disruption to daily routines of civic life.
The absence of rain for a long time gathered dust on leaves which the long-awaited rain washed away making the leaves green. The rain also brought relief to farmers, most of whom were struggling to get irrigation water.
Md Ashraf Uddin, a farmer in Manikganj, told BSS that most of the farmers had been eyeing the sky for rain because the irrigation was not sufficient for their crops.
Another farmer named Aynal Mia said it’s difficult to pump sufficient water with fixed fuel. As a result, we couldn’t supply adequate water to the crop fields. “Adequate rain is the only hope now,” he said.
According to the Met department, rain is likely to continue for the next few days. The impact of the winds coming from the west and northwest is increasing the trend of Kalbaishakhi storms.
In a warning message issued today, the met office cautioned a Kalbaishaki strom in Dhaka, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Rajshahi and Sylhet divisions for 48 hours commencing 6 pm today.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in many places. Heavy rainfall is also expected in the north and northeast regions of the country.
Deep convection is likely to take place over northern part of the country and adjoining areas and it may continue. Under its influence heavy (44-88 mm/24hrs) to very heavy (>88 mm/24hrs) rainfall is likely to occur at places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions during next 96 hours commencing 09 AM today.
At the same time, there may be a thunderstorm and hailstorms in some places across the country.
The met office also advised everyone to remain alert and urged not to stay in open spaces during thunderstorms, stay away from large trees or electric poles and not to go out unnecessarily.
