BNP Chairman's Adviser Abdul Quddus passes away

DHAKA, April 25, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Chairman's Adviser Dr. Md. Abdul Quddus passed away at around 2:20pm today while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in the capital.

BNP Media Cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan confirmed the matter. 

Dr. Quddus was 76. He left his wife, a son and a daughter to mourn the death.

Family sources said he had been undergoing treatment in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for a long time. 

The first namaz-e-janaza was held after Asr prayers in front of the BNP's Naya Paltan office. He'll be laid to rest following the second namaz-e-janaza after Zuhr prayers in his ancestral village home in Gaffargaon upazila of Mymensingh.

Prof Dr. Md. Abdul Quddus was not only a physician; he was also a Liberation War veteran. In his professional career, he served as a Professor of Ophthalmology at Bangladesh Medical University.

BNP Secretary General and LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed deep grief over the death.

In a condolence message, Fakhrul prayed for the forgiveness of the departed soul and expressed deep sympathy for the bereaved family. 

In separate condolence messages, BNP Standing Committee member and Minister for Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Prof Dr. A. Z. M. Zahid Hossain, and the University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr. F. M. Siddiqui expressed deep shock and sorrow. They said the nation will remember Professor Quddus's contributions will be remembered with respect in both the fields of medicine and politics.
