CHATTOGRAM, April 20, 2026 (BSS) - Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport has officially introduced a 24/7 free ambulance service and a low-cost baggage wrapping facility specifically designed to assist expatriate workers.

Announced by Airport Director Group Captain Sheikh Abdullah Alamgir, the free ambulance service is dedicated to transporting sick or deceased migrant workers from the airport to their family homes.

Additionally, travelers holding a Wage Earners' Card can now access professional baggage wrapping for a subsidized fee of only Tk 100, ensuring their belongings are secure at a fraction of the standard cost.

During a meeting chaired by ATM Mahbub-ul Karim, Director General of the Wage Earners' Welfare Board, officials emphasized that these initiatives are part of a broader strategy to honor the economic contributions of the expatriate community, who make up approximately 73 percent of the airport's total traffic.

To further modernize the travel experience, the airport has already rolled out free Wi-Fi, mobile charging stations and a dedicated breastfeeding corner. Future upgrades are also underway, including a new international-standard smoking zone, a boarding bridge and a massive waiting lounge equipped with 750 chairs to accommodate the high volume of passengers.

To ensure a safe and seamless journey, the airport has bolstered security through increased surveillance and mobile courts aimed at preventing passenger harassment.

Specialized help desks and ramp cars have been deployed in the apron area to assist elderly and distressed travelers, with support provided by organizations such as BRAC and the Shamsul Haque Foundation.

Wage Earners' Welfare Board Director General ATM Mahabub Ul Karim expressed readiness to support the airport authorities in delivering modern services.
