DHAKA, April 18, 2026(BSS)-In a joint drive by Mirpur Model Thana and the Detective Branch (DB) of Police have unearthed the mystery of a robbery case and arrested five accused from Savar and Ashulia areas, DMP officials said today.
The arrested persons have been identified as: Md. Masud Mia (31), Md. Imran Hawlader (29), Md. Suman (39), Anisur Rahman alias Nabi Hossain (45) and Sajib (32).
They were apprehended on Thursday during joint drive by Mirpur police and DB from Zirabo area under Ashulia thana and Mushurikhola area of Bhakurta Union under Savar thana.
According to DB and police sources, the robbery took place at a residence in the South Monipur area under Mirpur thana on last Tuesday. Members of the robbery gang entered into the house, assaulted the residents, tied them up and looted valuables at gunpoint. A robbery case was subsequently filed with Mirpur thana.
Following the incident, a joint team of Mirpur thana and DB-Cyber South unit, analyzed the CCTV footage, used ground intelligence and applied information technology to identify the suspects and uncover the details of the crime.
Based on this information, raids were carried out in different locations on April 16, leading to the arrests. Some looted items were also recovered during the drive.
Further interrogation revealed that the arrested individuals had been involved in organized robbery across Dhaka district including the city and other parts of the country for a long time.
Masud Mia is reported to have planned the robbery in Mirpur area and engaged others. The group later assembled in front of a mosque near Kazipara Bus Stand before carrying out the robbery.
Legal proceedings against the accused are currently underway. Police operations to arrest the other absconders and ensure a thorough investigation are going on.
