DHAKA, April 18, 2026 (BSS) - Police have arrested four individuals, including alleged mastermind within 24 hours of the sensational murder of Asadul in the Mohammadpur area of the capital.

The arrested have been identified as Md. Munna (24), Md. Akhtar Hossain (45), Md. Miraj Fakir (22), and Md. Nayan alias Khokon (24).

On Friday, a raid was conducted in Keraniganj area, leading to their arrest. A motorcycle and a Swiss gear knife believed to have been used in the murder were recovered from their possession.

Deputy Commissioner Md. Ibne Mizan of the Tejgaon Division disclosed at the DMP Media Centre today.

The incident took place around 12:50am on Wednesday in front of Ripon's workshop on a road in the Sadeq Khan Brickfield area of Rayerbazar.

The victim, Asadul, also known as Lombu Asadul, was suddenly attacked by the accused, who used sharp knives and bricks to inflict serious injuries on different parts of his body.

Police rushed to the scene after being informed by locals and rescued the victim. He was taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Following the incident, the victim's cousin, Anju Akter, filed a murder case with Mohammadpur Police Station.

Police said that after the case was filed, a team from Mohammadpur Police Station used intelligence and technological support to identify the suspects and trace their locations.

During preliminary interrogation, police said the accused confessed that the murder was carried out due to prior enmity. The victim had previously assaulted Akhtar Hossain, which resulted in a case, and the accused planned the killing out of revenge. Financial disputes between them also contributed to the incident.

Police sources further stated that Munna has seven previous cases related to drugs and robbery, while Miraj has one case and Nayan has two drug-related cases.

Legal proceedings against the arrested individuals are underway, and police operations are continuing to arrest other absconding suspects.
