DHAKA, April 16, 2026 (BSS) – A court here today remanded former Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) official Major (retd) Manjil Haider Chowdhury for the third time in a case lodged over the killing of hawker Abdul Wadud during the July Mass Uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Pias passed the order, placing Manjil on a five-day remand in the case. The court came up with the order as the police produced the accused before the court and prayed for a seven-day fresh remand.
Earlier on April 13, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam had placed the accused on a three-day remand in the same case. The same court had also earlier granted a four-day remand on April 10.
Police arrested Manjil Haider Chowdhury on April 9 from a house in Mohakhali DOHS in the capital.
According to case documents, Abdul Wadud was shot dead in the Nilkhet area under New Market Police Station on July 19, 2024. His brother-in-law Abdur Rob filed the case against 130 people, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader.
