Aman for united efforts to build drug-free society

DHAKA, April 11, 2026 (BSS) - Former minister and Member of Parliament (MP) from Dhaka-2 constituency Aman Ullah Aman today called for united efforts from the people of all walks of life to build a drug-free society.

He made the call while addressing a function titled "Quality Education, Bright Future, Reception for Meritorious Students and Talent Awards" at Keraniganj upazila here as the chief guest.

In his address, Aman said that drugs destroy individuals, families and society as a whole. Drug addiction not only ruins the life of an individual but also pushes families toward crisis, he said and urged the students to stay away from drugs and to raise awareness within their families.

Referring to democracy, he said that it has been restored in the country through long struggles and sacrifices and that people have regained their voting rights. 

He also alleged that in previous years, elections were marred by irregularities and people could not cast their votes properly.

Remembering those who were killed during student-public movement, he paid tribute to the martyrs including Keraniganj's Shaheed Riaz, saying their sacrifices helped to rebuild the nation.

Recalling the contributions of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, he said she played a significant role in restoring democracy and promoting female education through stipend programs. 

He also stated that Tarique Rahman is working to make the country self-reliant through education-friendly and welfare-oriented initiatives.

Aman added that more support programs for students would be introduced in the future.

Addressing the students, he said the present generation holds immense talent and potential and through hard work and discipline, they can take on important tasks in the future. 

He encouraged them to pursue higher education and participate in competitive examinations, including the BCS.

He emphasized on the importance of discipline, respect for elders and regular study habits, noting that student life is the best time to build character, morality and values.

The ruling party MP also said that a harmonious social environment can be built through mutual respect and compassion. 

He expressed his commitment to make Keraniganj free from extortion and land grabbing, stressing the need for collective efforts to ensure a peaceful and secure society.

Highlighting the environmental protection and self-reliance, he encouraged tree plantation initiatives, urging every family to plant trees and adopts planned measures for the future. 

He a stressed on maintaining cleanliness and raising awareness to prevent diseases such as dengue, saying cleanliness is not just a habit but a social responsibility.

The function was supervised by Barrister Irfan Ibn Aman Ami, organizing secretary of Dhaka District BNP.

Meritorious students from various educational institutions were honored at the event with crests and awards. The program also attended by local dignitaries, teachers, guardians and a large number of students.
