RAJSHAHI, March 22, 2026 (BSS)- Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon, MP, has said that those seeking nomination in the upcoming local government elections must engage in politics based on sacrifice and public involvement.
He stated, “The days of pleasing someone with good or bad food or giving expensive gifts to secure nomination are over. Now, one must go to the people, listen to their problems, and work towards solutions.”
He made these remarks on Sunday afternoon as the chief guest at an Eid greeting exchange program organized by the upazila BNP at the party office in Mohanpur on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Advocate Milon further said, “If someone expects nomination without staying in the area or standing by people in times of need, they should forget that dream. By the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha, it will be clear who has worked in the area, and nominations will be given by the party based on that.”
He also mentioned adopting a 90-day program at the union level.
He said, “Area-based problems will be identified and initiatives will be taken for quick solutions. These activities will be carried out every Friday and Saturday. Wherever we go, we will work together with local leaders, activists, and elders, following their advice.”
He added that committees will be formed at every ward level and the women’s wing will be made more active.
The event was presided over by Mohanpur Upazila BNP President Shamimul Islam Mun and was attended by General Secretary Mahbubur Rahman.
Among others present were former chairman of Dhurail Union and former organizational secretary of the upazila BNP, Kazim Uddin, along with leaders and activists of BNP’s affiliated and associate organizations.
Meanwhile, from morning till noon at his office in BSCIC, the MP exchanged Eid greetings with distinguished persons, leaders of various professional organizations, people from different walks of life, and party leaders and activists from Paba-Mohanpur and surrounding areas.
