Rajshahi divisional commissioner visits Santahar train accident site

NAOGAON, March 19, 2026 (BSS) - Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Dr ANM Bazlur Rashid visited the site of the train derailment involving the Nil Sagar Express intercity train in Adamdighi of Bogura.

He inspected the accident site this afternoon in the Bagbari area under Chhatiangram Union of the upazila.

Member of Parliament for Bogura-3 (Adamdighi-Dupchanchia) constituency Abdul Mohit Talukder, Rajshahi Range DIG Shahjahan Ali, Bogura Deputy Commissioner Toufiqur Rahman, Superintendent of Police Mirza Sayem Mahmud, Adamdighi Upazila Nirbahi Officer Masuma Begum, and local Union Parishad Chairman Mohiuddin Talukder, among others, were present.

Nil Sagar Express train, which departed from Dhaka, derailed around 2:00 pm on Wednesday near Bagbari, close to Santahar Junction Station. As a result, nine coaches of the train went off the tracks, leaving more than a hundred passengers injured.

Upon receiving the information, four units of the Fire Service rushed to the scene and began rescue operations. Later, two relief trains from Ishwardi and Parbatipur were deployed to intensify the rescue efforts.

In connection with the incident, Santahar Assistant Station Master Shahidul Islam Ranju has been temporarily suspended on charges of negligence. A four-member investigation committee has also been formed.

Meanwhile, after about 21 hours of repair work, the derailed coaches were removed and the railway line was restored. Train movement has now returned to normal, according to Santahar Station Master Khadija Khatun and Santahar Railway Sub-Assistant Engineer (Way) Afzal Hossain.
