PIROJPUR, March 10, 2025 (BSS) - State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahammad Sohel Monzoor has directed authorities to start operations of the 250-bed Pirojpur District Hospital without waiting for the installation of lifts in order to reduce the sufferings of patients.

The directive was given today at around 11:30 am at a meeting of the Pirojpur District Hospital Management Committee.

Replying to questions from journalists after the meeting, the state minister said the hospital will initially start limited operations without lifts to ease the hardship of patients.

He said a decision has been taken to make four floors of the 250-bed Pirojpur District Hospital operational between April 30 and May 15.

Monzoor said the installation of lifts has been delayed due to the ongoing global war situation, adding that the lifts are expected to arrive in August. “So, instead of waiting for the lifts, we have decided to start healthcare services on four floors,” he said.

The state minister also said that there is a shortage of doctors in hospitals across Bangladesh. However, considering the necessity, steps will be taken within the next two months to appoint doctors and relocate any malfunctioning equipment.

He expressed hope that better healthcare services would be ensured within the next two months compared to the previous situation.

Chaired by State Minister Ahmad Sohel Monzoor, the meeting was attended by Pirojpur Deputy Commissioner Md Abu Sayeed, Civil Surgeon Md Matiur Rahman, Additional Superintendent of Police Abdul Awal, Pirojpur district BNP convener Nazrul Islam Khan and member secretary Saidul Islam Kismat.
