DHAKA, Mar 05, 2026 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today ordered the freezing of two savings certificates worth Taka 20 lakh held at Janata Bank in the name of Lutful Tahmina, wife of former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to the petition, Tahmina allegedly acquired illegal wealth worth Taka 15.46 crore beyond known sources of income and kept the assets under her possession.

The ACC also alleged that Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, while serving as the home minister, abused his authority to assist Tahmina in committing the offence.

The petition further said that suspicious transactions amounting to Taka 43.77 crore were carried out through several bank accounts in Tahmina's name and in the name of institutions partly owned by her.

Through these transactions, the accused allegedly transferred, converted and concealed illicit funds, committing offences punishable under the Money Laundering Prevention Act.

During the investigation, the ACC learned from reliable sources that the accused were attempting to transfer the alleged illicit assets.

The commission argued that freezing the bank accounts was necessary to prevent the disposal of the assets and to facilitate their possible confiscation in favour of the state upon completion of the trial.
