FENI, Feb 13, 2026 (BSS) - Abdul Awal Mintu, Vice Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has pledged to ensure the highest quality of public service to improve the living standards of residents in Feni following his decisive victory in the 13th National Parliament election.
Mintu was elected from the Feni-3 (Daganbhuiyan-Sonagazi) constituency by a landslide margin, defeating his nearest rival Mohammad Fakhruddin Manik of Jamaat-e-Islami by more than half a million votes.
Expressing his reaction after being unofficially declared elected, Mintu said his personal victory was secondary to the broader political significance of the election.
“It is not a big issue that I have won from Feni. I believe the victory of the Sheaf of Paddy and the BNP’s coming to power is very important for the future of Bangladesh,” he said.
He described the election as free, fair and peaceful one.
“There was no trouble and no reports of obstruction. I believe free and fair elections were held across the country, including Feni-3. I thank everyone involved in conducting the polls,” he added.
The newly elected lawmaker assured residents that he would work to eliminate extortion and drug-related problems in Daganbhuiyan and Sonagazi as a response to the people’s overwhelming support.
Highlighting longstanding challenges in the constituency, Mintu emphasized the urgent need for measures to prevent river erosion and the priority construction of the Muchapur closure project.
“There have been various crisis due to the absence of elected public representatives for a long time. Effective initiatives must be taken to address river erosion and complete key infrastructure projects,” he said.
He also outlined plans for comprehensive development, including expansion of education and health services, establishment of medical colleges and nursing institutes, development of sports facilities, road construction and infrastructure improvement and agricultural expansion.
“My plan is the development of my area and the development of Feni district. As proud son of Feni, we want its progress,” Mintu stated, expressing hope that BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman would also prioritize the district’s development.
He also acknowledged the contributions of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to the district’s advancement and pledged to continue working toward Feni’s growth.
Abdul Awal Mintu is regarded as a prominent figure in both the political and economic arenas of Bangladesh. A native of Alaiyarpur in Daganbhuiyan Municipality, he completed his early education in his village before pursuing higher studies at home and abroad.
Known as a writer and researcher, Mintu has also played a significant role in the country’s business community. He previously served as president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and represented Bangladesh in various national and international business forums. As an industrial entrepreneur, he has received multiple awards at home and abroad.
This was his first participation in a national parliamentary election as BNP Vice Chairman.
Mintu comes from a family known for its contributions to local development. His father, the late Haji Shafiullah, served two terms as chairman of the upazila, while his younger brother, Md. Akbar Hossain, was the first elected mayor of the municipality. The family has been associated with the establishment of educational institutions, madrasahs, and industrial enterprises in the area.
Local analysts believe Mintu’s victory has created new hope for sustainable and comprehensive development in Feni. Residents say they expect his continued support and cooperation in accelerating the district’s overall progress.
