CUMILLA, Feb 6, 2026 (BSS) - Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Chairman Colonel (Retd.) Oli Ahmad Bir Bikram today said politics of the country cannot be dependent on foreign powers. 

"The people of the country are the true owners of this land. Politics must be conducted in the interest of the people, not by serving foreign interests," he said.

He made these remarks while addressing a Jamaat-e-Islami election rally at Miabazar High School Ground in Chauddagram of Cumilla in the afternoon.

The LDP Chairman said, "It is unacceptable for foreign leaders to decide who can or cannot come to the country. The question is will you stand with the people of Bangladesh or with foreign masters? This is a matter of the country's independence and sovereignty."

"I have not joined Jamaat, nor has Jamaat joined LDP. Patriotic and nationalist forces have come together on some fair agendas. We will establish justice end tender manipulation, and corruption, and bring loan defaulters to justice to recover the people's money," said Oli Ahmad.

Referring to the country's two main political parties, he said, "This election is not just about power. It's a decision of the people against corruption and for justice."

He assured that if the 11-party alliance comes to power, justice will prevail. "To save the country, the youth must come forward. We can no longer vote for those who serve foreign interests," he added.

Oli also called on Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman to take steps to increase the salaries of government employees and create job opportunities for educated unemployed youths. 

He concluded urging people to carefully decide whom to vote for- 'corrupt or justice?'

Central member of Jamaat-e-Islami's Majlis-e-Shura and freedom fighter Mohammad Abdus Sattar presided over the rally.

Speaking at the rally, Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, a candidate of the 11-party alliance and Jamaat's central Nayeb-e-Ameer, stated, "This election is not just a regular election. It will determine the future and fate of the country. The people will decide whether Bangladesh will survive or not."

Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana Abdul Halim, South Cumilla District Ameer Advocate Md. Shahjahan, Cumilla City Secretary Mahbubur Rahman attended the rally as special guests, among others.
