DHAKA, Aug 20, 2026 (BSS)- Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) today observed the 55th martyrdom anniversary of Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman with due solemnity.

On the occasion, Air Vice Marshal Haider Abdullah, Air Officer Commanding of BAF Base Bir Uttam A K Khandker, offered a munajat at the Martyred Intellectuals' Graveyard in Mirpur this morning, seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of Matiur Rahman, said an ISPR press release. 

Air Vice Marshal Haider Abdullah recalled with profound respect the outstanding contribution of Matiur Rahman to the Liberation War in 1971.
Family members of the martyred freedom fighter, senior officers of Air Headquarters and different BAF bases in Dhaka, and airmen attended the munajat.

Special doa and munajats were also held at mosques of different BAF bases and units to mark the day, the release said.

Recalling with deep respect the glorious sacrifice of Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman during the Liberation War, the participants prayed for the eternal peace of his departed soul.

Besides, discussions on the life and heroism of Bir Sreshtho Matiur Rahman and special munajats were held at all schools and colleges run by the BAF.
