DINAJPUR, Feb 2, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain has emerged as a popular candidate in the Dinajpur-6 parliamentary constituency, drawing widespread attention and support through active grassroots campaigning.

Dr. Zahid Hossain has been conducting massive public outreach across villages in the four upazilas of the constituency—Nawabganj, Birampur, Hakimpur and Ghoraghat—meeting voters from all religions, ethnic communities, professions and social classes. Locals report that his approachable manner and willingness to listen have contributed to his growing acceptance among voters.

During door-to-door visits, courtyard meetings and street gatherings, Dr. Zahid Hossain has been engaging directly with residents, listening to their concerns and taking notes on key local issues, particularly in agriculture, education and healthcare.

He has placed special emphasis on hearing the demands of women, first-time voters, unemployed youth, minorities and tribal communities.

Addressing public meetings, Dr. Zahid Hossain said that the Dinajpur-6 constituency has long remained deprived of development and has lagged behind national progress. He pledged that, if elected, he would prioritize infrastructure development, improve education and healthcare services, and create employment opportunities for youth and women, while ensuring special initiatives for tribal communities.

The BNP candidate has already held campaign activities in several areas, including Bulaki, Palsa, Singra and Ghoraghat unions of Ghoraghat upazila; Alihat and Khattamadhabpara of Hakimpur upazila; Mukundapur, Katla, Khanpur, Deor and Binaul in Birampur upazila; and Golapganj, Shalkhuria, Putimara, Bhaduria, Daudpur and Mahmudpur in Nawabganj upazila.

Voters expressed enthusiasm at seeing a nationally known physician contesting the election. Many residents said that, unlike traditional politicians, Dr. Zahid Hossain’s presence in village courtyards has made them feel directly connected to national leadership. They also said his role as a member of the medical board formed for the treatment of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

According to the District Election Office, Dinajpur-6 has a total of 557,693 voters, including 278,053 men, 279,627 women and 13 third-gender voters. The constituency has 234 polling stations across three municipalities and 23 unions.

Six candidates are contesting the parliamentary election in Dinajpur-6, including BNP’s Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Md. Anwarul Islam, Jatiya Party’s Md. Rezaul Haque, Islami Andolon’s Md. Nur Alam Siddique, Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (BaSoD) candidate Md. Abdul Hakim, and independent candidate Shahnewaz Firoz.

Local voters said that after a long time, a well-known professional dedicated to public welfare has entered the race, raising hopes for development-oriented leadership in the constituency.
