RANGPUR, Feb 1, 2026 (BSS) - National Citizens Party (NCP) spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sojib Bhuiyan has said that the 11-party alliance is ready to take any tough decision if any controversial Jatiya Sangsad (JS) election is attempted.
"We are very clear on this matter from the field level and there is a common understanding among the parties. If an attempt is made to organize a controversial election through a settlement that will make it clear in advance that such and such a person will become the Prime Minister or such and such a party will be elected. If such and such an election is attempted, the 11-party alliance is ready to take any tough decision at any time.''
He said this in response to questions from journalists after visiting the grave of martyr Abu Sayeed in Babanpur village of Pirganj upazila of Rangpur on Sunday afternoon.
Referring to BNP, the former adviser to the interim government said, in many cases, a particular party is being given special privileges.
"We have already seen that clashes are taking place in many places. In one place, an upazila secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed," he said.
When such incidents are happening, we, the 11-party alliance, have been patiently observing these issues in many cases.
In response to a question from journalists whether they are facing any obstacles in the elections, Asif Mahmud said, we have previously raised questions about the Election Commission's ability to organize these elections in a fair manner. We have also spoken about their bias in many cases.
"As the JS Elections are approaching, we can see that the control of the Election Commission and the government at the field level is not as much as it should be in an ideal situation for organizing an election," he said.
When asked about the Awami League's public campaigning for a 'No' vote in the referendum, the NCP spokesperson said, "It doesn't matter. You know that since the mass uprising, the Awami League and its allies have been irrelevant in politics."
In this referendum, almost all the important political parties of Bangladesh, including BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, NCP, are saying in favor of a 'Yes' vote, and everyone involved, including the government, is campaigning for a 'Yes' vote.
He said, "We have seen in all the surveys that have come out so far that the 'Yes' vote is far ahead. Through this spontaneous participation of the people in favor of this 'Yes' vote, we believe that a huge mandate, the mandate that was there through the mass uprising, and the process of this reform will be further strengthened."
Regarding Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader's comment that the NPP, Jamaat and the government are in the same situation, Asif Mahmud said, "We no longer consider any party from Delhi to be relevant in Bangladeshi politics. We have seen that they used to go to Delhi and hold meetings and say that what was said cannot be said."
He said, "We do not consider the statements of those who are in league with Delhi and do politics with clear in league with Delhi as relevant or credible in the political arena."
NCP central and local leaders were present at the time.
Meanwhile, Asif Mahmud will join the election campaign programme in Kawnia and Pirgachha upazilas of Rangpur-4 constituency as part of the election march aimed at reform, good governance, establishing sovereignty and making the 'Yes' vote and NCP candidates win in the referendum and JS elections.
NCP member secretary Akhter Hossen is contesting from this constituency as the nominated candidate of the 11-party alliance.
