DHAKA, Jan 20, 2026 (BSS) -The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced strict enforcement of the ban on honking in designated “silent areas,” including Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport zone and several upscale neighbourhoods of the capital, from January 25, 2026.

According to a DMP statement, the silent area covers Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and a 1.5-kilometre  north–south stretching from Scholastica School to Hotel Le Méridien, as well as the Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and Niketan areas.

These zones were officially declared silent areas in September 2025 under the Noise Pollution (Control) Rules, 2025.

From January 25, the Traffic Division of the DMP will begin imposing punitive measures against drivers who violate the rule by honking. Offenders may face a maximum fine of TK 10,000, imprisonment for up to three months, or both.

A special mobile court will also operate in the area in  presence of magistrates from the Department of Environment, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), Civil Aviation Authority, Dhaka North City Corporation and the DMP to ensure strict compliance.

DMP Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali has called upon all concerned drivers to refrain from honking in the airport area, including roads and parking zones under the Civil Aviation Authority, to help reduce noise pollution and maintain a peaceful environment.
