DHAKA, Jan 6, 2026 (BSS) - After a long wait of 21 years, the Jagannath University Central Students' Union (JnUCSU) election was held today, drawing a vibrant and enthusiastic response from students, particularly female voters.

Voting began at 9:00 am, and the university campus quickly turned lively as a large number of female students arrived at polling centres, adding a festive and celebratory mood to the long-awaited election.

Many female voters described the experience as historic and emotional, as it marked their first opportunity to cast a ballot in their lives.

Jannatul Ferdoush Sraboni, a student of the Sociology Department, said she felt excited and curious while voting for the first time. "This is my first vote in life. I never had the opportunity to vote before. Casting my vote in such a festive environment feels truly different," she said.

Chandni Akter, who voted at the Marketing Department centre, likened the day to a celebration. "Today feels like Eid to me. We discussed and decided whom to vote for last night, and then I came and cast my vote," she said, adding that she hopes the elected representatives will work for the students.

Beauty Akter, a voter at the Faculty of Arts centre, said students had long been deprived of representation. "For a long time, we had no representatives to speak for us. From today, we will have our representatives, and we expect them to work for us," she said.

Mahmuda Jahan, who voted at the Management Studies Department centre in the Shaheed Sajid Building, said she was delighted to cast her first-ever vote in a peaceful environment. "We want qualified leadership to emerge from Jagannath University who will work for us," she added.

Voting continued until 4:00 pm, after which the vote counting process began and was continuing at the time of writing this report.
