DHAKA, Jan 06, 2026 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today filed a case against former mayor of Barishal City Corporation and Awami League leader Serniabat Sadik Abdullah for failing to submit his wealth statement within the stipulated time.

ACC Director General Md Akhtar Hossain disclosed this information to the journalists during its regular media briefing at the commission’s headquarters here.

According to the ACC, following a preliminary inquiry into the allegations of acquiring assets beyond known sources of income, the commission had earlier approved a notice requiring the accused to submit a wealth statement. Accordingly, a notice was issued in his name on October 16, 2025.

Attempts were made several times to serve the notice at his residential addresses in Kalabagan in Dhaka, Kalibari Road in Barishal city and his village Seral under Agailjhara upazila but the accused could not be found.

Subsequently, on November 4 last year, the notice along with the wealth statement form was served by affixing it to the door of his ancestral home in Barishal.

However, as the accused failed to submit the wealth statement within the prescribed 21 working days after serving the notice, the FIR said, adding that he committed a punishable offence under section 26(2) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004.

The ACC further said the period of the offence has been determined from October 16, 2025 to December 3, 2025. The places of occurrence include the ACC headquarters, Kalabagan in Dhaka, Barishal city and different areas of Agailjhara upazila.
