DHAKA, Jan 5, 2026 (BSS) – BNP Standing Committee Member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan today said the ideals of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and Bangladesh’s progress will be implemented through the leadership of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

“Under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, the ideals of Deshnetri Begum Khaleda Zia and the progress of Bangladesh will be realized,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at a food distribution programme for the underprivileged, organised to seek prayers for the departed soul of Begum Khaleda Zia.

The Agriculturists Association of Bangladesh (AAB) organized the event at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) Convention Hall in the city.

AAB convener Kamruzzaman Kaiser presided over the event.

Dr Moyeen Khan said, “Deshnetri Begum Khaleda Zia never bowed her head to injustice. She protested against wrongdoing while adhering to the rules. Due to her relentless efforts, Bangladesh was liberated from military rule and parliamentary democracy was restored in the country.”

At this time, Moyeen Khan expressed optimism that the unfinished work and thoughts of Begum Zia would be realized through her successor and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

The veteran BNP leader said, “Deshnetri Begum Khaleda Zia was such a unique personality that we could never fully express her in words. She was the most beloved personality among Bangladesh’s 18 crore people; she was a symbol of Bangladesh’s unity and an uncompromising leader.”

“She stood for democracy, for justice, for people’s freedom, for establishing people’s rights, and for establishing the rights of women in this country.”

“For eight long years, she struggled on the streets, freed Bangladesh from military rule, and restored parliamentary democracy in the country,” he went on saying.

“The people of this country know that when Begum Khaleda Zia said something, it was firm and certain. She never deviated from her statements. That is why we know her as an uncompromising leader,” added Moyeen Khan.

Giving an example of Begum Zia’s uncompromising stance, he further added, “From 2009 to 2024, she endured hundreds of instances of oppression, torture, and injustice. But she never compromised on matters of principle. She was imprisoned in false political cases. But she never bowed her head to injustice.”

During his speech, Moyeen Khan called upon everyone to work together to uphold the ideals of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, implement Khaleda Zia’s unwavering struggle, and realize Tarique Rahman’s plans for building the country.
