DHAKA, Dec 30, 2025 (BSS) – Gono Forum founder and its emeritus president Dr Kamal Hossain today expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of former prime minister and BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

In a condolence message, Dr Kamal prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed his heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family members.

He said Begum Khaleda Zia led the BNP during difficult times and that her strong and resolute leadership helped keep the party united and earn the confidence of the people.

Dr Kamal recalled her uncompromising role in the anti-autocracy movement of 1990, the formulation of the outlines of the three-party alliances and the restoration of democracy, saying these contributions would be remembered by the nation for generations.

He also mentioned her role in establishing the parliamentary system of government, winning elections from multiple constituencies, being re-elected as prime minister and enduring repeated imprisonment during democratic movements, describing these as exemplary milestones of her political life.

“We have lost a patriot and a guardian of democracy with the demise of Begum Khaleda Zia. She will remain a unique source of inspiration in the nation’s democratic struggle,” Dr Kamal said.
