DHAKA, Dec 28, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has signed the nomination papers to contest the upcoming 13th Parliamentary Election as the 'Sheaf of Paddy' (Dhaner Shish) candidate from the Dhaka-17 and Bogura-6 constituencies.

He signed the papers this evening at the BNP Chairperson's Gulshan office here.

Party coordinators for the two respective seats were present on the occasion.

Earlier this morning, ABM Abdus Sattar, Private Secretary to the BNP Chairperson, collected the nomination papers from the office of Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury in the city’s Segunbagicha area.

A reliable BNP source revealed that Tarique Rahman applied to be a voter in the Dhaka-17 constituency yesterday (Saturday).

Following this, senior BNP leaders requested him to contest the election from the Dhaka-17 seat.

Upon learning of this, Andaleeve Rahman Partha, Chairman of the Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) decided to step aside from the Dhaka-17 seat and intended to contest from the Bhola-1 constituency as a mark of respect to Tarique Rahman.

Earlier on Saturday night, BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed, while discussing the finalization of party nominations, announced that BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman would contest from the Dhaka-17 seat.

He further stated that Andaleeve Rahman Partha, Chairman of the Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP), a key ally of the BNP, would participate in the election as the alliance candidate from the Bhola-1 constituency instead of Dhaka-17.
