Ferry services resume on Aricha-Kazirhat, Paturia-Daulatdia routes

MANIKGANJ, Dec, 28, 12, 25 (BSS) - The ferry Services between the Aricha-Kazirhat route on the river Jamuna resumed after 11.25 hours suspension which was due to dense fog.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Aricha Ghat Manager Md Abdullah said the ferry movement between Aricha-Kazirhat on the Jamuna river was suspended from 9 .00 pm on Saturday due to poor visibility as the dense fog blanketed the river bed.

He said at that time two ferries Bir Shreshtha Hamidur Rahman and Dhan Siri were stranded at Arichaghat, ferry Shah Ali was at the Kazirhat point and another ferry Chitra was on the river Jamuna close to the Kazirhat point loaded with vehicles and passengers.

The ferry movement resumed at 8.40 am today after 11.25 hours suspension, Manager Md Abdullah added.

Meanwhile, the ferry movement between Paturia-Daulatdia was suspended at 9.50 pm on Saturday and after 4.25 hours suspension the ferry movement resumed from 2.25 am on Sunday, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Paturia Ghat sources said.

At that time, four ferries were stranded at Paturia Ghat without any vehicles and passengers, six ferries were stranded at Daulatdia Ghat without any vehicles and passengers and four ferries were stranded in the middle of the Padma river loaded with vehicles and passengers.
    
After easing the dense fog, all ferries are now operating normally, BIWTC Paturia Ghat sources said.
