RANGPUR, Dec 27, 2025 (BSS) - The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) arrested 3,152 people and seized a huge quantity of drugs during 9,910 anti-drug drives conducted across Rangpur division over the last 11 and a half months.
Additional Director of the DNC's Rangpur divisional office Md Masud Hossain said the operations were carried out from January to December 15 this year in all eight districts of the division - Rangpur, Kurigram, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Dinajpur, Thakurgaon and Panchagarh.
During the drives, the DNC recovered and seized about 10,600 kilograms of ganja, 4,500 bottles of phensedyl, 500 grams of heroin and 5,500 Yaba tablets, along with various other domestic and foreign illegal drugs.
Vehicles and cash used in drug trafficking were also seized. "We seized Taka eight lakh in cash, 18 motorcycles, three microbuses, three battery-run auto-rickshaws, 10 easy bikes and 64 mobile phones used in drug trafficking," Md Masud Hossain said, adding that 3,027 cases have been filed in this connection.
He said the DNC is conducting continuous and coordinated operations to curb drug trafficking and prevent the spread of narcotics across the division.
"Operations are being conducted regularly every day, and no exemption is being given to drug users, dealers, transporters or their associates," he added.
Md Masud Hossain said the anti-drug campaign will be further strengthened in future through enhanced coordination with law enforcement agencies and the local administration.
He noted that drugs pose a serious threat to society and future generations, particularly the youth, as drug abuse destroys family and social bonds.
"That is why, alongside enforcement activities, public awareness programmes are also being carried out across the division," he added.
