SYLHET, Dec 26, 2025 (BSS) - The district administration here is set to accord a reception to 100 expatriate Bangladeshis in recognition of their contributions to the economy and society through remittances and other achievements at home and abroad.
The programme, titled "Expatriates' Reception 2025," will be held tomorrow. Adviser to the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Dr Asif Nazrul will attend the event as the chief guest.
Sylhet Deputy Commissioner M Sarwar Alam said the reception will honor 100 expatriates from the district for their contributions in various fields both nationally and internationally.
As part of the day-long events, a colorful rally will be held at 10am to pay tribute to the expatriates.
The main reception ceremony will take place at 11am at the Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium in Rikabibazar, Sylhet. Later in the evening, a seminar on the role of expatriates in local development will be held at the Sylhet Circuit House.
Earlier, on November 17, the district administration invited applications in six categories to honor the district's remittance heroes. Applications were accepted until December 5.
The categories included successful businessmen, community leaders, women entrepreneurs, sports personalities, and individuals involved in importing Bangladeshi products to their respective host countries. Applicants were asked to submit their biodata through a Google form or via email.
According to Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Masud Rana, more than 600 expatriates from 11 countries applied within the stipulated time. After scrutiny, the district administration finalized a list of 100 expatriates to be honored.
Dr Asif Nazrul will formally hand over the honors to the selected expatriates at the reception ceremony on Saturday.
