DHAKA, Dec 18, 2025 (BSS) — Marking the International Migrants Day, 18 journalists were awarded the Migration Media Award 2025 for their outstanding contributions to investigative journalism on migration issues.
The awards were handed over at a ceremony in the capital with European Union Ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Miller attending as the chief guest. Head of the International Labor Organization (ILO) in Bangladesh Max Tunon and Joint Secretary and Project Director of the RAISE Project under the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Dr A T M Mahbub-ul Karim were present as special guests.
Editor of Daily Samakal Shahed Muhammad Ali presented the keynote paper, while BRAC Executive Director Asif Saleh chaired the event. BRAC Associate Director (Migration and Youth Platform) Shariful Hasan delivered the welcome address highlighting the country’s migration scenario.
In the national daily category, Rajib Ahmed of Daily Samakal secured first place, Russell Ahmed of Kaler Kantho came second, while Kaniz Fatema of The Business Standard and Md Mohiuddin of Prothom Alo jointly won third place.
In the regional newspaper category, Tarikul Islam Mohammad Hasan of BanglarPotrika won first place, Mohammad Sharif Iqbal of Daily Grameen Darpan second, and Ayesha Siddika of Daily Subarnagram third.
In the online category, Kamran Siddiqui, Jasim Uddin and Saleh Shafique of The Business Standard won first place, Raihan Ahmed of JagoNews24 came second and Md Abdullah of Banglavision third.
In the television news category, Samrat Hossain of Channel 24 won first place, Masuda Khatun of News 24 second and Sajid Arafat of Ekhon TV third.
In the investigative television programme category, Talash of Independent Television received the award, accepted by Md Nazmul Sayed and Rakibul Hasan. Badsha Mia, Dhaka Bureau Chief of Radio Tehran, received the award in the radio category.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Michael Miller said journalists play a vital role in bringing migrants’ voices to the forefront and stressed the need for safe and legal migration. Asif Saleh and Max Tunon underscored the importance of people-centered reporting and reducing high migration costs in Bangladesh.
