ACC files graft case against ex MP Shamsul Haq Tuku

DHAKA, Dec 18, 2025 (BSS)- The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against former Member of Parliament and former Deputy Speaker Md Shamsul Haq Tuku on charges of acquiring assets worth about TK 3.59 crore inconsistent with his known sources of income.

On the same allegation, the commission has ordered his two sons and one daughter-in-law to submit their wealth statements, said ACC Director General Md Akhtar Hossain in a regular media briefing at the ACC headquarters.

According to the ACC, an inquiry found that Md Shamsul Haq Tuku’s lawful income amounted to TK 3,36,79,835, while the value of his acquired assets stood at TK  6,96,04,016. 

As a result, the value of assets is inconsistent with his known sources of income which was determined at TK 3,59,24,181. 

In this connection, the ACC filed a case under Section 27(1) of the ACC Act, 2004, and Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.

Besides, as preliminary evidence has been found against Shamsul Haq Tuku’s son and former Mayor of Bera municipality  SM Asif Shams for acquiring assets worth TK  26,66,68,543 inconsistent with known sources of income. 

The ACC has ordered him to submit a wealth statement under Section 26(1) of the ACC Act, 2004, to ascertain his actual assets. 

The inquiry found his lawful income to be only TK 3 lakh 99, while the value of his assets was TK 26,69,68,642.

Under the same section, the ACC has also ordered SM Nasif Shams, Associate Professor of the Energy Institute of Dhaka University, to submit a wealth statement. His lawful income was found to be TK  1,15,05,349, while the value of his acquired assets stood at TK  6,79,63,744, resulting in assets worth TK  5,64,58,395 inconsistent with his known sources of income.

In addition, as preliminary information has been found regarding Nasif Shams’s wife Mumtahin Mostafa acquiring assets worth TK 1,48,66,750 inconsistent with known sources of income, the commission has ordered her to submit a wealth statement.
