Jamaat Ameer urges countrymen to observe Martyred Intellectuals Day, Victory Day

DHAKA, Dec 13, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman today called upon the countrymen to observe the Martyred Intellectuals Day on December 14 and the Victory Day on December 16 with due dignity, solemnity and respect.

In a statement, the Jamaat chief described December 14 and December 16 to be of profound significance in the national life saying these two days were eternal symbols of sacrifice, struggle and glory in the history of the nation.

“We remember with deep respect and gratitude the martyred intellectuals and the heroic freedom fighters who laid down their invaluable lives to establish the independence and sovereignty of the country. We pray to Almighty Allah for the eternal peace of their souls,” he said.

The Jamaat chief urged the countrymen alongside his party men to observe the two national days through discussions, rallies and prayers, reaffirming firm commitment to safeguarding the country’s independence and sovereignty and establishing people’s rights.

Rahman said Jamaat also pays profound respect to the valiant freedom fighters who took part in the 1971 Liberation War and dedicated themselves to the struggle for the country’s freedom.

At the same time, he prayed for the salvation of the souls of those who were martyred during the July Uprising and expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved families, wishing speedy recovery of the injured.

He noted that the nation is observing Martyred Intellectuals Day and Victory Day at a time when the country was freed from a fascist regime through the united movement of students and people.

“After more than fifteen and a half years of misrule, oppression, enforced disappearances and killings, people have been liberated and are now aspiring for peace, relief and stability, while striving to overcome a fragile economic situation,” Rahman said.

The Jamaat ameer, however, alleged that domestic and foreign allies of fascism were still active and were trying to destabilise the country through various conspiracies and tactics.

He said the attack on Inquilab Mancha leader Sharif Osman Hadi on December 12 was a glaring example of such attempts and urged the nation to remain united to resist all anti-national plots.

The Jamaat chief also extended heartfelt greetings and congratulations to the nation on the occasion of the Great Victory Day, wishing overall happiness, prosperity and welfare of the country.

Jamaat, meanwhile, announced a three-day programme to mark the Martyred Intellectual Day and the Victory Day and according to the schedule it will stage a discussion at the Krishibid Institution Hall in the capital on December 14 and hold another discussion at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) on December 15 on the occasion of Victory Day.

On December 16, the party will organize a youth marathon at the Suhrawardy Udyan at 7:00 am.
